E-Mail phishing alert: Subject – “UNIFORM TRAFFIC TICKET (ID:89016145)”
Notes:
- This phishing scam is a new one for me. It’s allegedly a notification of a fixed-penalty speeding offence from the New York State Police.
- The fact that the e-mail address of the sender appears to be genuine, suggests that they have been the victim of e-mail spoofing.
- If, like me, you’ve never even been to New York, then the alarm sirens will start wailing straight away!
- There is usually an attachment to the message. In this case, it’s supposedly a copy of the ticket that you can print. As usual, please: Do not attempt to open this attachment!
- This e-mail phishing attempt has been submitted to Phish Trackers – a site where you can post details of any phishing scams you may come across.
